" The House That Junk Built "

Another image from Aragon, GA, Summerville's Parts. I really enjoyed this place and the people who own and work here. They are extremely helpful and nice to everyone who comes in. This image struck me as very unique, you won't see this everyday. Just for an added touch, if you look directly behind the sunken boat you will see one of the biggest hogs I have ever seen. All in all a very unique and wonderful place to visit. Hope you enjoy!! More to come next week.

" Make Yourself at Home "

Traveling just outside Aragon, GA I ran across this junkyard or used auto parts establishment, to be politically correct. I seriously doubt Johnny and the boys would care. These were some of the nicest, down home, ordinary Americans you could ever want to meet. This was my first trip to visit, but would not be my last. They told me to go anywhere and shoot anything I wanted. I did just that and will be back again and again. Hope you enjoy!!

" Parking Deck "

Here are more from my self assigned Parking Deck shoot. This is one of the parking decks I know of where you can shoot without any interference from security guards. They actually never bother to even come around, even with a tripod! It sits up on a very tall hill and has an excellent view of the Atlanta skyline and also 3 other buildings close by. It also has a good sunrise and sunset view in relation to the buildings.
I really enjoy the graphic qualities that can be found inside and outside the deck. All in all a great place to shoot. Everyone should try and give your local parking deck a try, it is very rewarding and lots of fun. Hope you enjoy!!

" The View "

This is an amazing image from the parking deck where I shot fireworks on July 4th 2008. I was so intrigued by this place that I had to go back just to shoot in the parking deck. This image is an HDR image shot at about 4PM looking out at the Atlanta Skyline. I worked quite a bit on local contrast and color to get it where I wanted it. I hope you enjoy!!

" Old Cave Springs School "

The last of the images from the Cave Springs shoot. Saved 2 of the best for last. The Doors shot and the Stairwat HDR are both from the building that is scheduled for destruction soon, try to get up there soon if interested in shooting there. I have been up twice in the last year and it a fantastic location. Hope the graffiti doesn't bother you, if so please use discretion. Sometimes it is there and part of the scene. Two great images, one done normally and one an HDR image. Hope you enjoyed the images from Cave Springs, GA as much as I enjoyed shooting them.

" Dark Childhood "

A really cool shot if I do say so myself. I found this by opening a closed door that said "No Trespassing", I find a lot of opportunities like that. I actually moved the highchair about 6 inches, which I normally won't do, to put the shadow the way I liked it. I really liked the dust and the spider webs on the chair. The last time I was here I didn't go in this building and I can't remember why. Very glad I did this time. This image was warmed a little and the contrast boosted in the Tone Curve. I liked both images, so I put up both, which do you like best? Hope you enjoy both!!

" Memories Past "

Memories are a very strong and powerful thing. this image brings back memories of my brother, who played baseball most of his childhood. Though he has been gone for 7 years, I still think of him often when out shooting.

This image was shot in Cave Springs in an old building where all the old sports equipment was stored. Apparently they just left everything there and bought new. I really enjoy this area, it is fairly close to home. Hope you enjoy!!

" Christmas Past Again "

Just a couple more Christmas images from Cave Springs, I really liked these old decorations in Storage. You never see this type of stuff anymore, brings back old memories from my childhood. These bells especially remind me of a time when almost every town had these on every pole in town. I am showig my age. I really hope everyone enjoys these images from Cave Springs, I will probably make another trip there late spring early summer. Contact me if interested in coming along. mikenalley@comcast.net .

" Christmas Past "

Another image from the Cave Springs shoot. This really moved me, the old discarded poinsettia in the dismal light. The colors are amazing with the reds and the orange like background. Also the fact everything is dirty and dusty. It was shot handheld at probably ISO 800 or 1600, it was early morning and very dark.
I will say once again what a great place Cave Springs, GA is to plan a shoot. If you get a chance please go up and spend a day around town. Hope you enjoy!!

" Good Monday "

Good afternoon everyone. This was to be an early morning post, but blogger would not post photos this morning. This image was taken last Friday on a trip up to the Armuchee area of N.W. Georgia. As usual I was just driving along until something caught my fancy. A good friend who just lost his job was with me on this adventure. What a wonderful morning it was, although 27 degrees was a little cool on the hands. I will try to post more images later. I have a Paulding Fine Arts board meeting at 7PM. Hope you enjoyed this belated morning photo!!

" Which One "

Just wondering which one you like best. I actually prefer the black & white, but that's just me. Leave me a comment, I really would like everyone's opinion. This staircase goes up to and old storage room filled with old sports equipment and christmas decorations. They have cleaned a lot of the stuff out since last year. They may be planning to tear down this building also. I really hope not. Hope you enjoy!!

" Ripples "

This image was a quick grab, I had been somewhere else shooting after already shooting the pond, suddenly ripples from a fish. I ran over and grabbed 2 quick shots. The others were OK, but this was great, really made the shot. Cave Springs pool fed by the spring in the cave. Hope you enjoy!!

" Shadow and Light "

What a unique play of shadow and light on this old school room in Cave Springs. This image was shot at around 8AM, I was freezing (26 degrees) my butt off. My fingers were barely able to work the camera, but what an image. I just love the light and the graphic quality of the awning over the door.

As I said in an earlier post, you need to get up to Cave Springs before they rennovate the whole town. They are in the process and once they finish it just won't be the same. Hope you enjoy!!

" Fingerprints "

A very unique print on the door of the schoolhouse. I'm not sure who or why this was put here, but it sure made a cool image. Nothing real special just very graphic and colorful. I liked the stark white finger marks against the dark reds and blacks. Again Cave Springs is a place to visit time and again. I really think you would enjoy a trip there. Hope you enjoy!!

" Cave Springs Teaser "

This is just a teaser image from the field trip Paulding Photography Club took on Saturday to the small town of Cave Springs. This is sunrise on the old school in town, one of two. They have begun rennovations on the other building, but this one has solid walls and no way to rewire and plumb, so down it will come shortly. I came up here last February before they had started any of the work and had a great time photographing the interiors. Some were posted in my very early posts.

Cave Springs is home to the Deaf School, Rolater Park, the cave and the spring. The water from the spring is said to be some of the best water around. I filled 2 gallon jugs while I was there. Cave Springs is a great place to visit with lots of Antique stores, eateries and old buildings. It is located about 10 miles NW of Cedartown on Hwy 100. I will post more through the week. Hope you enjoy!!

" Waiting on Spring "

This image shows tomatoe cages stacked next to the old homeplace just waiting for spring. Hoping for warm weather and a chance to plant tomatoes. This is a common site this time of year, as anyone who plants a garden knows. After the recent cold winter temps, we are all looking forward to spring. Hope you enjoy!!

" The Door "

Another image from the Rome to Aragon shoot. This is an old home built in the 1930's at a major crossroads outside Aragon, GA. It used to be a major area of commerce in the old days. I just loved the colors in this doorway and also the old screen. It was shot as a raw file and processed in Lightroom 2, not a lot done to the file. More images from around the house to follow. Hope you enjoy!!

" The Interior "

Here are a couple of interiors of the old abandoned farmhouse near Aragon, GA. This is still one of my favorite subjects, I just love getting inside old homes. These 2 images lent themselves to black & white because of the monotone colors. Also the rich textures of the walls and the hay. This is another subject born from just riding the backroads until you see something interesting. Everyone should try this sometime, I promise you will eventually find something to shoot. Hope you enjoy!!

" Inside Looking Out "

This is the interior of the abandoned farmhouse from yesterdays post. It has been used to store hay for the last several years, but still has lots of character. This image is an HDR image used to try and show detail out the windows, didn't quite hold it in the small windows. I will have a few more images from this location later this week. Hopr you enjoy!!

" My 100th Post "

Well I finally made it to 100 posts on my blog. I chose this image because it is one of my favorite subjects, Abandoned. I have a thing for old abandoned buildings, homes and factories. This home was between Rome and Aragon, GA, I found it just driving around on my way home from a doctors appointment last week. This was an enjoyable little area, it was home to 7 bar rooms and 1 jail back during the late 30's thru the 50's. The lady who owned this home was born in another old house on the property and she and her husband were a joy to talk with. They were a wealth of info about the area. I will be posting more images of this area later on this week.

Thanks for visiting my blog and please comment on the content and images. Hope you have enjoyed the first 100, more to come.
