Mark working with students on Mirror Lake at Whiteside Mountain Cove. October 13, 2009.
I lost a close, wonderful friend and fellow photographer Friday night. Mark Hutchison was a great photographer and writer whom I met in 2008 when I joined Gallery 4463 in Acworth, GA. He was one of the original members of the gallery. We had an instant respect and friendship for each other. As time went on we became closer and began working and brainstorming together often.
In September of 2009 Mark asked me to assist on his Fall Highlands Photography Workshop, which I gladly accepted for the experience. We had rain for 2 out of 3 days, but Mark still managed to provide a great experience for the participants. He and I realized we made a pretty good team.
We began working on a partnership for the 2010 workshops in Highlands, NC and my Jekyll Island workshops. We met last Wednesday and decided on 3 Highlands, 2 Jekylls and 1 North Georgia workshops. We had just begun work on advertising.
Friday night Mark passed away suddenly. I lost a close friend and mentor. Mark influenced many photographers in our area. He judged many competitions for Paulding Photography Club, Cobb Photographic Society and many more. He will be missed by many including myself. He was a great friend and I will miss him dearly.

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.
Thanks Eric. I will really be somewhat lost for a few days. We were really close.
Mike,
I met both you and Mark at Gallery 4463 during a show recently. As an aspiring photographer, as much as I enjoyed seeing the beautiful works of yours, Damien's and Mark's, what impressed me most that evening was Mark's personality.
Even on that busy night, and with me a stranger, he took time to talk to me, to encourage me. I had been in touch with him recently and he made a gracious offer to work with me so that I might be able to attend one of the 2010 workshops, even though I lost my job a few months ago.
He was an inspiration to me with just one meeting. I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you will find healing soon.
Thanks jan, I got to assist on the Fall workshop with hm this October and we had planned to partner up and do about 6 workshops together in 2010. I have been sort of at a loss since he passed away. Keep in touch, mikenalley@comcast.net.
