" Providence Methodist "
Who would have thought it would be open! I just kept trying doors until I found one open. This church was originally located about 200 yards from where it is now, but would have been in the bottom of the canyon. Many years ago the local people raised it up and put it on logs to roll it away from the edge. What a job, sounds a lot like building the pyramids. Lots of character, texture and a really great cemetary. I hope to visit the canyon again this Friday for some more shooting. Hope you enjoy.Monday, January 19, 2009
" Providence Canyon Workshop "
The details are set for our Providence Canyon spring workshop. The dates are April 4-5, 2009. We will spend the first day around and in the canyon shooting the rim and the floor. There are also some abandoned automobiles and a church which are very cool. The park opens at 7AM and closes at 9PM, the light may be gone before 9PM, but we will stay out until dark.If we have a place to meet that night we will do some critiques of the images shot that day. The next morning we will meet and head for Westville, GA., an 1800's working town. There will be no limit to the possibilities of the shoot there. They have blacksmiths, basket weavers, doctors office and other goodies. The shoot here will be black & white oriented as the situation will be good for that medium. We will spend the entire day here and try to shoot and learn as much as possible.
All in all it should be a very good learning experience for all who attend. The cost is $225.00 for the whole weekend, lodging will be up to the individual, we will try to give more info as time goes by. The park is way out in the middle of nowhere so lodging will be scarce, we may have to stay a little ways from the park.
Contact me by email if you are interested in joining us on this workshop, it will be a weekend well spent. mikenalley@comcast.net my phone 770-235-2355.

You may email me to sign up at mikenalley@comcast.net . The limit is 20 folks, so let me know.

" Providence Canyon Cars "
Another Providence Canyon shot. These cars are from an old abandoned homeplace. It was not possible to move them and they decided to just leave them there. They are really pretty cool to shoot and make for another view on life around the canyon before the state took control. Providence Canyon is one of the most out of the way parks in Georgia, there were very few people there, we actually didn't see anyone in the canyon itself. Everyone should visit this park, it is absolutely amazing. Hope you enjoy!!Wednesday, January 14, 2009
" Providence Canyon "
Here is the first quicky image from the Providence Canyon Shoot Monday. This is the first image I shot, it is an HDR from the rim about 9AM. The light actually takes a while to get down in the canyon, a great place to shoot if you like to sleep in. Our trouble was traffic in Columbus on our way down. This is an amazing place to photograph. The possibilities are endless, from the canyon rim, the canyon floor, the old abandoned cars, the wildlife and the church.Hope everyone considers our workshop which is April 4-5, 2009. We will spend Saturday all day at the canyon and Sunday we will go to Westville, GA, an 1800's working town which is a great place for black & white work. We are still working on the details, but feel free to email me for up to the minute details. mikenalley@comcast.net , my phone 770-235-2355.

Bill Kettering and I are headed to Providence Canyon in middle Georgia to do some scouting and preliminary photography for our Spring Workshop. Dates are not set yet, but probably late March or early April. It will be a weekend workshop with a full day in the canyon and a full day at Westville, GA. and 1800's town very close to the canyon.
We will teach landscape techniques at the canyon on Saturday, spend the evening with some Photoshop work, then shoot a full day at Westville, mainly shooting for black & white images of the old town.
We hope to see some of you there in the spring, details will be posted in a week or so. I will also post some images from todays shoot later in the week. Thanks for visiting, hope you enjoy!!
