A pretty good haul this time, more mullet than shrimp. In their neighborhood mullet is king. These guys had so much fun doing this that it was basically play to them. Of course the beer between pulls was good too. Hope you enjoy!!

Darrel and James were seining for shrimp with a net made by Pops. They had been up all night drinking and were still having a Natural Light after every trip out. I had never seen this done and it was fascinating and very hard work. After about an hour they had about 10 lbs. of shrimp and 60 lbs. of mullet. They spent almost the whole day with their nets and they had great luck. Thanks for letting us share in the experience. Hope you enjoy!!

Pops is the local net maker and repairman. We met him on Saturday of our workshop as he was setting up to work on his nets and try to gain more business. A happier soul you have never met. He was a wonderful person and a joy to photograph. Hope you enjoy!!

Three interesting images from the maritime forest on Jekyll Island. All three are HDR images, two are converted in Silver Efex Pro. I really enjoyed photographing in the forest this trip, as I have mever tried to move into the woods before. I really got some good images this time. Hope you enjoy!!

This is a very cool swing on Jekyll Island. It has been here for a long time and is used quite often. The textures of the rope and the trees it is tied to are amazing. Luckily it was very cool or the bugs will carry you away. Hope you enjoy!!

Back on the marsh. A little different approach that I enjoy trying now and then. Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it doesn't. Mostly it doesn't, but these turned out really nice, I think. Comment and let me know what you think. Basically you have to move the camera in a planned way and it is always different. Different ways and amounts to move. Hope you enjoy!!

The beautiful morning glow of sunrise light on the live oak forests just off the beach. The light is incredible this time of morning. Although very cold, you can't tell by the photo. It is always good to look around and study all the angles and not get taken in by the sunrise on the water. Hope you enjoy!!

" Day Two On Driftwood Beach "

This was day two on Driftwood beach. We wound up there both mornings at high tide, this was the first time I tried to shoot at high tidse. Next years workshops will all be timed for low tide at sunrise. This created a special problem, especially this morning as the tide was extra high. I had the distinct pleasure of standing in a fire ant hill long enough to get them all over my legs and had to shoot while being bittem every so often. No time to stop and worry about ants with this light. Hope you enjoy!!

I lost a close, wonderful friend and fellow photographer Friday night. Mark Hutchison was a great photographer and writer whom I met in 2008 when I joined Gallery 4463 in Acworth, GA. He was one of the original members of the gallery. We had an instant respect and friendship for each other. As time went on we became closer and began working and brainstorming together often.

In September of 2009 Mark asked me to assist on his Fall Highlands Photography Workshop, which I gladly accepted for the experience. We had rain for 2 out of 3 days, but Mark still managed to provide a great experience for the participants. He and I realized we made a pretty good team.

We began working on a partnership for the 2010 workshops in Highlands, NC and my Jekyll Island workshops. We met last Wednesday and decided on 3 Highlands, 2 Jekylls and 1 North Georgia workshops. We had just begun work on advertising.

Friday night Mark passed away suddenly. I lost a close friend and mentor. Mark influenced many photographers in our area. He judged many competitions for Paulding Photography Club, Cobb Photographic Society and many more. He will be missed by many including myself. He was a great friend and I will miss him dearly.

These shots were taken from across the marsh of the big factory in Brunswick, GA. We started right at sunset and shot until dark. The second one was taken handheld for 1/2 sec. in order to blur the factory and the car, just thought it would look different. Hope you enjoy!!

These images were taken above the Ritz Theater in downtown Brunswick, GA. This is also the gallery where I had a solo show last October and November. Here are a couple of marsh images that were taken after sunrise on our first day on Jekyll Island. Both were converted using Silver Efex Pro from an HDR image. I really thought I would be wasting my time to try and cross this area, but found out even at high tide it was only a couple inches deep. I am so glad I did because no one else was willing to try, so I have the only imageas from out in this marsh. Hope you enjoy!!

Here are a couple of images made at Driftwood Beach on the second morning of our workshop. It was fairly cild and a little bit windy, but the images were great. We met at the parking lot at 5:15 AM, and started shooting at about 5:30. The secret is to be there long before sunrise and stay until just after when the light gets too harsh. Hope you enjoy!!

What a shame, left with no one to play with. I am fascinated by how many pianos I have seen in abandoned homes. I am guessing around 40% have a piano in some state in them. I have photographed at least 15 or 20 of them. Hope you enjoy!!

I took the same image last November on my way to take down my show in Brunswick, GA., so I decided to reshoot this November on my way down. This image was taken on the way back from my Jekyll Island Fall Workshop. This is a beautiful bridge and very old. I actually saw it on the way down and just didn't have time to stop. The water was a little high, so I couldn't get the view I wanted. Images from the workshop to follow in the coming days.

We had a great time and came back with some amazing images. The weather was unreal with highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. I only had 3 participants, but I only had room for 5. A great time had by all. Hope you can join us for a later workshop.

Another old home found while riding around in the country. This one must have been used for a deer camp or something like it. It was abandoned with lots of stuff left behind. The fair is all about motion, the least of which is walking constantly and the most intense is the rides. These images are just plain fun and very easy to produce, simply a tripod and a long shutter speed. If you have a chance to see the fair this year give these a try, you will have a great time.

This old house was filled and I think a lot has to do with furniture being left behind. Also the condition of the interior. The less filled and the worst the condition the less opportunities. The old abandoned Aragon Mill is a very unique place. It has been almost totally demolished, but there is still a very small part left. This photo was taken in this small area. The kids have been inside strowing the old thread around hence the spider web effect. Hope you enjoy!!

A couple of new images from the ols abandoned Cemex concrete plant in Rockmart. I have been photographing here for a couple of years. It is very dangerous inside from falling concrete, but well worth the trouble. They usually don't say anything about going inside, but you never know when that will change. Hope you enjoy!!

Early morning at the Cagle chicken feed plant in Rockmart. We were just killing time before heading to the Cemex concrete plant and decided to get a few shots here. We got run off after only about 4 frames, but I got the shots I wanted anyway. This is one place I have been to 3 times and this is the first time they have said anything, so you never know what they will do. Hope you enjoy my 200th post!!

It was an amazing show with works from all mediums. It was an honor to participate in this exhibit. The exhibition is open until September 28, 2009.

These photos were taken on Mothers Day this year, my father passed away last year on my mother's birthday. September 11th, bad day for all. I am recovering from the hustle and bustle of trying to get everything together for my opening in Carrollton last Friday night. Things went extremely well, we had about 200 folks come out for support. No sales yet, but this market is brutal.

Tons of positive comments and praise for my work. I had a lot of new photos in this show, including some new people photography. That is my real passion, along with my abandoned stuff. Hope to be working again this week, it has been about 3 weeks since I got to do anything personally. Hope you enjoy!!

We are in the planning stages for a Jekyll Island and Savannah, GA winter workshop. The dates will be November 13-15, 2009. We will spend the first 2 days on Jekyll photographing Driftwood Beach, the dunes and the marshes. The last day we will travel to Savannah to photograph the waterfront, Tybee Island and Bonaventure cemetary. We are working on lodging and an area to meet in the PM for critique and teaching. The old caboose in Chatsworth, GA. This is in front of the old depot-museum in downtown Chatsworth, GA. The first was taken through the window of the car and the second was after we were able to gain entry. both were really unique in the light I had to work with. The second is an HDR. Hope you enjoy!!

This diner is located between Blue Ridge and McCaysville GA. I got up early one morning and went to shoot this exclusively and of course spent 4 hours around the area. The colors and the shine was what brought me here.

Just some quick shots I did around the old town of Draketown, GA a while back. This used to be a fairly bustling town with a hotel and quite a few businesses in the old days. Now just quiet and peaceful with not a lot going on. A few vacant houses and businesses for me to explore. Hope you enjoy!!

These three images will be in the new "In Your Dreams" exhibit opening Friday night at Atlanta Photography Group in Atlanta. Located at 75 Bennett Street NW, Space B-1 ; Atlanta ,GA 30309. The opening reception is Friday night July 17th from 7:30-10:00 PM. Would like to invite everyone down to see an amazing exhibit from 30+ photographers. It involves a wide array of work with the "In Your Dreams" theme. The show was juried by Naomi Silva who also has a gallery in the Tula Arts Building. Hope you can make it.

" Newry Mill "

These images are from the Newry Mill in South Carolina. I photographed here back in June when I went to visit my friend Mike. I have been in S.C. a couple of times to photograph, but this is the first time at the mill. What a wonderful place to shoot. Extremely low light and tons of peeling paint. I was in heaven. Such a pretty color for a liquor store. I photographed this store a while back, I noticed it one day while driving around. Went back a few weeks later. It was the color that drew my eye. I thought this was a strange color for a liquor store, but great color for my camera. Hope you enjoy!!

I have been extremely busy and have neglected the blog for a couple weeks now, but I am going to try to get back in the habit of posting daily. I am teaching a class at Booth Western Art Museum and have about 3 shows I am working on at present. Please forgive me and I will try to do better. Thanks for the patience.

"Metro Montage IX First Place"

This is the winning image from Cave Springs, GA. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art had it's reception Saturday night for the Metro Montage IX exhibit. My image won first place among over 80 artists. There were 300 artists who submitted work, of which 80+ had work accepted. The show was juried and judged by Rebecca Grunberger, exhibit coordinator for the Department of Asian Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Rebecca said of my piece, The photographed space in "EXIT" is simultaneously ambiguous and familiar. The peeling paint, loose wires and messy floor are polished with a golden light streaming in through a small window. The resuting image is both aesthetically and compositionally pleasing. Nalley captured the truly dilapidated space in a moment of pure beauty.

" Sanctuary "

This image was taken just after Easter at the monastery in Conyers, GA. The sanctuary was just gorgeous this morning, I just loved the light and the foreground. It is an 8 image HDR processed in Photomatix and then finished in Lightroom. Hope you enjoy!!

" Exit " my image from Cave Springs, GA took first place this weekend at the Paulding Photography Club 2nd Annual Competition. It was a great show, we had 52 entries from a wide variety of photographers. The exhibit will hang in the Dallas Civic Center until July 11, 2009. It is open Tuesday and Saturday from 10A-2P. Thanks to all who entered.
